The Igbo mask is used during the protection dancing ceremony, symbolising protection against illnesses and natural disasters (such as rain storms, etc.) The best known masks by the Igbo people are from the Northern Igbo Mmo society. The mask represents the spirits of passed on maidens and their mothers and symbolises their beauty.
